WorldCrafts artisan group ConneXions employs underprivileged women from the slums of Calcutta, India.
ConneXions has trained the artisans how to make products out of their traditional saris using the kantha, a traditional Indian embroidery technique.
The Impact of Your Purchase
The women artisans of ConneXions work primarily from their homes while looking after their children and doing housework.
ConneXions’ holistic approach encompasses education, value and moral instruction, health and hygiene, nutrition, medical assistance, counseling, and vocational training.
When a woman gains her freedom through ConneXions, she is able to set her family free from poverty. Through the sustainable income the women earn, they are able to pay for basic necessities, such as health care, their children’s education, and nutritious meals.
Sumi is an artisan and mother to two children. Sumi wants to provide a good education for her children, especially because she didn’t have an opportunity to go to school as a child. Her work at ConneXions allows her to earn a sustainable living income to support her family.
WorldCrafts orders provide hope with sustainable earnings for the women artisans.
